Can a Dispute Be Opened for Completed or Canceled P2P Orders?

Updated today

Completed Orders

An order is considered completed when:

  • The buyer marks the order as Paid

  • The seller confirms receipt of funds

  • The cryptocurrency is released from escrow

  • The order status is marked as Completed

After completion, it is no longer possible to open a dispute in the EMCD P2P interface. Once release is confirmed, responsibility for the fiat transfer lies solely with the parties to the transaction. This is because:

  • The cryptocurrency has already been transferred to the buyer

  • Escrow no longer holds the asset

  • The transaction is technically closed

Issues After Completion

Possible situations include:

  • A payment is disputed or reversed

  • An incorrect amount is identified

  • Fraud is suspected

  • The transfer was made in violation of the agreed terms

In such cases:

  • Contact EMCD support immediately via chat

  • Provide the order ID

  • Describe the situation in detail

  • Attach supporting documents such as receipts, bank statements, or P2P chat history

Important: After completion, cryptocurrency is not automatically reversed. Each case is reviewed individually, and decisions are made based on the available evidence.

Canceled Orders

An order is considered canceled if:

  • The buyer does not confirm payment within the required time

  • The buyer cancels the order before confirming payment

  • The system automatically closes the order when the payment timer expires

After cancellation, it is not possible to open a dispute, because:

  • The cryptocurrency is returned to the seller (for sell orders)

  • The order is considered incomplete

Exception: payment sent after cancellation

In some cases, funds may be sent:

  • After the payment time has expired

  • After manual cancellation of the order

  • Based on an off-platform agreement

In this case, the cryptocurrency is no longer held in escrow, and the platform’s protection mechanism does not apply.

In such cases:

  • Contact the other party via the order chat history

  • Contact EMCD support immediately

  • Provide proof of payment

Support may review the case and collect evidence; however, resolution options are limited, and recovery of funds is not guaranteed since the payment occurred outside the protected order state.

Important: EMCD provides a technological platform for P2P trading and ensures the escrow mechanism only within an active order. After cancellation, cryptocurrency is no longer locked, and fiat transfers are carried out directly between users via the selected payment method.

EMCD is not a party to fiat settlements, does not manage bank transfers, and cannot guarantee their receipt or refund. In such cases, Support may review the situation and request documentation; however, resolution depends on the circumstances of the transfer and the actions of both parties, and recovery is not guaranteed.

Why disputes are limited to active orders

The escrow mechanism works only during an active order:

  • When an order is created, cryptocurrency is locked in escrow

  • When a dispute is opened, funds remain frozen until a decision is made

  • After release or cancellation, escrow protection ends

Key guidelines

  • Do not release cryptocurrency until funds are confirmed as received in the bank account (not based on screenshots)

  • Do not send funds after an order has been cancelled

  • Do not make payments outside the P2P interface

  • Do not agree to off-platform transactions

  • Do not confirm release under pressure

  • Always respect the payment timer

  • Keep all supporting documents
