Payment Timer in P2P Orders: What Happens When Time Runs Out

In P2P orders, each transaction includes a payment timer. This time allows the buyer to transfer funds to the seller outside the platform and confirm the payment within the order interface.

Updated today

If the payment is not confirmed within the specified time, the order is automatically canceled.

What happens when the timer expires

If the buyer does not click Paid before the timer expires:

  • The order is automatically canceled

  • The cryptocurrency is released from escrow and returned to the seller

  • The order is considered incomplete

This is a standard mechanism that prevents funds from being locked in escrow and ensures a predictable process for both parties.

If payment was sent but the timer expired

Payment may be sent without being confirmed in the system before the timer expires. In this case:

  • The order is already closed, and escrow no longer holds the cryptocurrency

  • Platform protection no longer applies to the order

  • The seller is not obligated to complete the order or return the funds

Further resolution is only possible directly between the parties. To resolve the situation, the following steps may be taken:

  • Contact the counterparty via the order chat, if available

  • Provide proof of payment

  • Contact support and share the order and payment details

Support records such requests and may assist with communication but does not guarantee a refund, as the transfer occurs outside the platform.

Impact on account activity

Order cancellation due to payment timeout is recorded by the system and taken into account when evaluating user activity.

Repeated cancellations due to payment timeouts trigger a progressive restriction system. After two such cancellations, advertisements are automatically removed from publication. This measure is intended to prevent stricter restrictions, such as a temporary suspension of P2P features (e.g., up to 24 hours).

Further violations may result in additional restrictions or account checks.

How to avoid order cancellation

To ensure the order is successfully completed:

  • Check the payment time before opening an order

  • Use payment methods with fast processing

  • Send funds immediately after opening the order

  • Always click Paid immediately after completing the transfer

Important notes

EMCD P2P does not participate in fiat settlements between users and does not control them.

All transfers are made directly between the parties. Platform protection applies only within an active order and when all rules are followed, including timely payment confirmation.
