Learn how to choose the right mining equipment for Equihash and set up your ASIC to connect to the EMCD mining pool.

Quick Guide: How to Start Mining with Equihash

To access your ASIC's settings, enter its IP address into your browser's address bar. Make sure your computer and ASIC are connected to the same network. For more details, check out the How to Access Your ASIC section.

Once you're in, enter the following details:

  • Worker name: Use the format username.workername

  • Stratum URLs: Choose the server closest to your location:

    • stratum+tcp://gate.emcd.network:8866 — Russia

    • stratum+tcp://eu.emcd.network:8866 — Europe

    • stratum+tcp://kz.emcd.network:8866 — Kazakhstan

    • stratum+tcp://cn.emcd.network:8866 — China

    • stratum+tcp://us.emcd.network:8866 — USA

You'll find detailed step-by-step instructions further down in this article.

What Equipment Do I Need to Mine with Equihash?

Equihash is a mining algorithm used by several cryptocurrencies, including Zcash (ZEC). If you're planning to mine ZEC, make sure your equipment supports this algorithm.

Mining on everyday devices like smartphones or laptops isn't practical. You'll need specialized mining hardware to get started.

Your potential earnings and how long it takes to recover your investment depend on a few key factors:

  • Hashrate: How much computing power your device provides.

  • Power consumption: How much electricity your equipment uses.

  • Electricity costs: How much you pay for electricity in your region or at your hosting facility.

When choosing a miner, look for a good balance between hashrate and power consumption. The more energy-efficient your setup is, the better your potential profitability.

It's also worth choosing your mining location carefully. Electricity costs can make a big difference to your earnings.

How to Set Up Your ASIC for Equihash Mining

1. How to Access Your ASIC

To open your ASIC's settings, enter its IP address into your browser's address bar.

Make sure your computer and ASIC are connected to the same local network.

How to Find Your ASIC's IP Address Using IP Scanner

  1. Visit the Advanced IP Scanner website, then download and install the software.

  2. Set the IP address range you want to scan using the IP button in the toolbar.

  3. Click Scan. Once the scan is complete, you'll see a list of devices connected to your network.

  4. Find your ASIC in the list, copy its IP address, and paste it into your browser's address bar.

2. How to Connect Your ASIC to the EMCD Pool

Once you've logged in to your ASIC, find the pool connection settings.

In the example below, this section is called Configuration → Pool Settings. The name may be different depending on your device. Look for a section called Miner, Configuration, or something similar.

2.1. Which Stratum URLs Should I Use?

In the URL or Address fields, enter the stratum URLs for connecting to the EMCD mining pool.

Make sure to fill in all three pool URL fields. Choose the servers closest to your location.

Your ASIC will use the first URL as its primary connection. If there's an issue with that server, the device will automatically switch to one of the backup URLs.

TCP Stratum (stratum+tcp://)

This is a standard connection method that doesn't encrypt data. It's supported by most mining devices and works well for everyday mining with a stable internet connection.

Available TCP Stratum URLs:

  • stratum+tcp://gate.emcd.network:8866 — Russia

  • stratum+tcp://eu.emcd.network:8866 — Europe

  • stratum+tcp://kz.emcd.network:8866 — Kazakhstan

  • stratum+tcp://cn.emcd.network:8866 — China

  • stratum+tcp://us.emcd.network:8866 — USA

  • stratum+tcp://ru.hash.care:8866 — Russia (alternative server)

2.2. How to Name Your Worker (or Multiple Workers)

In the Worker field, enter a name for your device using the format username.workername.

Don't forget the dot (.) — it's required.

  • Before the dot: Enter your EMCD username. You can find it in the Profile section on our website or at the bottom right of the EMCD app.

  • After the dot: Choose a name for your mining device. This is how it'll appear in your EMCD dashboard.

If you have multiple ASICs, give each one a different worker name so you can easily tell them apart.

For example:

  • emcdlogin.worker01

  • emcdlogin.miner_M50

Important: Don't use the following characters in your worker name: @ & ₽ \ | « » " !

2.3. Do I Need to Enter a Password?

No, you can leave the Password field empty.

2.4. Do I Need to Restart My ASIC After Setup?

We recommend restarting your ASIC after saving the settings. Some models require a restart for the changes to take effect.

If everything is set up correctly, your device should appear in the Workers section of your EMCD dashboard within 20 minutes.

Don't worry if your worker initially appears in the Unstable list. During the first hour after connecting, your device is still syncing with the pool.

Once synchronization is complete, it should move to the Active workers list.

How to Set Up Mining Payouts on EMCD

To receive ZEC mining payouts, you'll need to provide a transparent (t-) wallet address.

Payouts to shielded addresses aren't supported.

Important: For security reasons, payouts are temporarily paused for 24 hours after you add a new wallet address.

How Are Equihash Mining Rewards Calculated?

ZEC mining rewards on EMCD are calculated using the PPLNS (Pay Per Last N Shares) reward system.

Your rewards depend on the blocks actually found by the pool over the previous 24 hours and your contribution to mining.

Regional Restrictions

Zcash (ZEC) mining through EMCD isn't available in all countries and regions.

Due to applicable regulatory and compliance requirements, ZEC mining is currently unavailable to users in the following jurisdictions:

  • European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries

  • United States

  • Kazakhstan

  • Japan

  • South Korea

  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)

  • Sanctioned jurisdictions where services are restricted under applicable regulations and EMCD policies

If you're located in one of these regions, you won't be able to mine ZEC through EMCD.

Please keep in mind that the list of restricted jurisdictions may change as regulatory requirements evolve.

Before getting started, we recommend checking whether ZEC mining is available in your region.
